A blog. What is a blog? By definition, a blog is “a website containing a writer’s or group of writers’ own experiences, observations, opinions, etc., and often having images and links to other websites”. If you’re reading this, your thought is probably something along the lines of “Oh great, another blog to take up space on the internet”. If I’m honest, that’s the same reaction I’ve had to writing this. But sometimes perspectives and attitudes change.
In Exodus 3 and 4, we learn about Moses’ encounter with the burning bush and God. When Moses has his encounter, God told him to go back to Egypt and get God’s people out of captivity. God had seen all of the afflictions His people had gone through and it was time to bring them out of Egypt and into the land of the Canaanites. God had a plan, and Moses had a role to play. Moses’ immediate response was why me? Who am I to do such a thing and deliver such a message to Pharaoh and to the Israelites? God was quick to give Moses a reality check. Moses was to do these things not because of who Moses himself was, but because of who God is, what He has done, and what He will do. God provided Moses with everything that was needed to complete the task at hand. You can even look back in chapter 2 of Exodus to see how God was using everything that had happened in Moses’ life to prepare him for what was being asked of him.
A few questions I’ve asked myself many times the last 5 months (because that’s how long I’ve been trying to get out of doing this):
“Why should I write a blog?”
“Why on earth would I be that open, honest, and vulnerable about the challenges of life?”
“What do I have to say that is THAT important that other people will willingly read it?”
“Who am I that anything I say or think truly matters?”
These are just a few of the questions that have stopped me starting this blogging journey. I’m not that great, but you know who is? My God. The work He has done and IS doing in my life is something worth sharing. Once you have tasted and seen the goodness of the Lord, how can you do anything BUT share about it. As life progresses, the one thing I continually find myself saying is I just want to be found faithful with where He has placed me and what He has called me to do. So now I’m writing a blog, and I guess we will all just see what happens.
My hope is that this won’t be a “blog to take up space on the internet”. Maybe, as you read this, you will laugh at what I write because sometimes my life is pretty ridiculous and it’ll bring a smile to your face. Maybe you’ll shed a tear or two as well, but my hope and prayer is that as I share about life, not only will it bring some healing and closure for me, but it will also bring encouragement to those who read it. It will encourage you to hold fast to truth when life is hard. It will remind you of the hope we have in life because of Christ. If you’re reading this and have no idea who this God is that I’m talking about, that it would be an opportunity for you to hear the gospel, repent, and believe in the one true God. If you have questions about that, I want to answer them.
Even when life is just really hard, He is still good, He is still faithful, and He is still working. This is just the beginning, and I am looking forward to sharing more with you. This is my journey of grief, of going, and of healing and maybe some random thoughts in between.
